adapted where the last birds stand at Festival Boulevard

We were honored to bring Where the Last Birds Stand—originally created for Museum Arnhem—to the vibrant stage of Festival Boulevard, marking our first performance at this celebrated festival. For this presentation, we developed an adapted version specifically suited to the festival’s unique atmosphere, and it was warmly received by audiences.

This re-imagining not only offered fresh resonance for the work but also provided new insights into its themes and staging, a creatively enriching experience for our entire team. It was a wonderful experience to be part of Festival Boulevard, and we look forward to more opportunities to share our work in such inspiring settings.

Peeled Collective’s multidisciplinary approach continues to explore how movement, visuals, and space intersect, now with renewed layers of meaning inspired by this adaptation.

adapted Het vouwen van stemmen at Vondelpark Openluchttheater

We were honoured to be invited by Julie Vegter to present a special version of Het vouwen van stemmen at the Vondelpark Openluchttheater. For this open-air edition, we reimagined the performance without the use of a projector, an exciting challenge we embraced wholeheartedly.

Het vouwen van stemmen is an intimate piece about transgenerational trauma, blending dance, image, text and sound. For this occasion, we created an adapted version that stays true to the heart of the original while responding to the unique outdoor setting.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share this work in such a special place, and we look forward to bringing this adjusted version to new stages in the future.

where the last birds stand at Museum Arnhem

In commission of Museum Arnhem, we are working on a new danceperformance that will premier on the 5th of April at Museum Arnhem. Inspired by their exhibition Ontmoeten (25 jan. 2025 t/m 31 dec. 2027 )  Based on two artworks from the collection, the duet Where the last birds stand was created. The artworks of Carel Willink and Stéphanie Roland evoke an oppressive feeling – an atmosphere of menace and desolation. The desolate landscape dominates and creates an ominous atmosphere.
In this duet, inspired by their works, we see the two marabous from Carel Willink's painting standing on a piece of land that, according to the expectation in Stéphanie Roland's work, will soon be swallowed up by the water.
Will they stay, hoping that the sea spares them? Or will they choose to fly away, without knowing whether there will ever be an end to the strong mass of water that slowly swallows the land? They are faced with an irreversible choice – one that will determine their future forever. A game between letting go and holding on, protecting and saying goodbye.

What do you do when you have to leave a place that is dear to you? When you have to say goodbye to what is dearest to you?

We will be performing Where the last birds stand several times as part of an amazing initiative of Museum Arnhem: Gratis Zaterdagen.

VIERxVIER

'𝘼 𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙫𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 (𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙙) 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜.'

We started our research at Makershuis Tilburg this week.
Our performances come from our own vulnerable core and are expressed through physical extremes, humor, gentleness and an interdisciplinary working method. Through our work and the process we engage in, conversations arise in which we continually find ourselves in a vulnerable position. The work serves as a sounding board to start conversations and look critically at our environment in an open way. During our Makers Trajectory we will focus on the question: How can we make visual art part of a performative work? In this case, by visual art we mean drawings. We often use this medium to shape our imaginary world and find it scenographically interesting to think about how we could involve such a static object in something like a movement performance.

The coming two weeks you can follow our process via @peeled_collective, we will be sharing something everyday around 18h00.
